Laparoscopy

Sorry that it has taken me so long to get this blog out, I have been really busy.

Laparoscopy lets the doctor see your reproductive organs close up. After the anesthesia, small incisions are made in the abdomen. This way, the laparoscope and other surgical tools can be inserted to perform the procedure. If a closer look is needed they will inflate the abdomen with carbon dioxide.

During surgery I will be put on a special table that can be tilted to help the doctor can reach the reproductive organs. An IV will be inserted to give medications and fluids. Once the anesthesia is given, the abdomen is inflated with gas and incisions are made. At the end of the surgery, the gas is released and the incisions are closed.

Possible risks and complications of surgery are infection, bleeding, risks of anesthesia, blood clots, larger incisions and damage to blood vessels, nerves, muscles or nearby pelvic structures.

Recovery is not too bad. If everything goes well during surgery I will go home that day, in some cases you might have to stay one or more nights. When I go home I might have some shoulder pain from the gas used to inflate the abdomen and the incisions maybe sore. But, I will be given medication to take care of all that.

Everything should be just fine. I am not looking forward to having this surgery but I hope that it will help us over come the infertility problems. I will keep everyone informed as I get more information.

Surgery

I still have not heard form the doctor's office as to when it going to take place. I am going to try to put it off until early next year. Because I called my current insurance and I will be responsible for 20% of the cost of the whole surgery. I am not sure what a laparoscopy cost but I am sure that I will not be able to afford 20% of it.
We are changing insurance companies for 2006. I have read through their coverage and it seems like they have better coverage.
As soon as I get it scheduled I will let everyone know the dates.

Update

I just wanted to give everyone an update on what has been going on with us. We have been keeping busy shopping for stuff for our apartment. We have gotten another couch, a pong chair and a coffee table. We love Ikea!
We also put up come curtains and some new pictures in the living room. Our apartment is starting to look more like a home than a college dorm. It is all coming together nicely.
Before you think that we won the lottery or robbed a bank. I want to set the record straight. All of our new stuff as all been purchased over several months. Just in case you were wondering...
Work is going well. I got the job from a temporary company and I was told last week that sometime really soon I will go permanent. Which is cool because I will make more money!
I went to the doctor about a week ago and found out that I need surgery. I should find out sometime this week when I will have it. I am going to have Laparoscopy. The reason is to find out if I have Endometriosis, which could be one of the cause of my infertility. When I get the date and some more details I will do a blog to let ya'll know.
This past weekend we have been working on getting things ready for company. Michael's mom is coming to spend Thanksgiving with us. Since I have to work the day after Thanksgiving we were unable to go home so she decided to come and be with us. I love my mother in law, she is great. It will be really great having her here.
Well, just wanted to give an update on what has been going on with me.

Looking Back

This past weekend I was looking through some old stuff. I came across a box of old pictures. Some of them go all the way back to high school. It really brought back some really good memories. I had forgotten some of the wonderful and exciting times I have had with my family and friends. The great parties, road trips, weddings and the birth of children. It was really nice sitting and thinking of all of these things I am truly thankful for having all the people in my life. It also made me reflect on how much life has changed in the past year.
At the very bottom of the box was a card that Krit gave me a few years ago when I was going through a really hard time in my life. The card reads:
Life is tough sometimes.
There are a
zillion decisions to make,
and none of them
are easy.
There are things
you want to do
but can't,
and things
you don't want to do
but have to.
There are good times,
and days you feel
like nobody could ever
possibly understand
what it's like to be you -
and you're maybe right......
(open)
But I'm here
if you want to talk
or hang out
and forget about life
for a while.
Hang In There
After reading this card again I realize that I need these words again to help get me through another hard time. This year has been a very hard and trying time for me and my whole family. There has been so many life changing things that have happened. It really does get overwhelming sometimes.
Things are looking up. My dad is getting better and better everyday. My husband and I are adjusting to life in Georgia. I went back to work. Money is getting a little less tighter.
Anyways, I mainly wanted to share this card with ya'll and maybe these words will pick you up if you are feeling down.
